Namecheap Domain Name Search

Namecheap Domain Name Search

In my article, I show you how to use the Namecheap domain name search feature to find a name for your website.

If you plan to start a website sometime in the future, I recommend you secure a domain name for your website now.

Once you purchase a domain name, it belongs to you. No one else can buy it if you don’t forget to renew the registration.

If you leave registering a domain name, you may find the name you want is already registered.

Before I start a website, I always buy a domain name. I have an account with Namecheap, so buying is easy.

There are currently over 625,911,488 registered domains. It is time to find one for your website.

Let’s begin.

Namecheap Domain Search

Before you can register a domain name, you must check availability.

When you find an available name, then decide on the TLD.

TLD stands for Top Level Domain. A TLD is what comes after your domain name.

For example, my domain name is Newblogr, and my TLD is .com.

I recommend buying a .com TLD because it is not associated with a country or sector.

It allows you to build any website you want.

Before searching for a domain name, have a few ideas about what you want. Be creative.

I recommend choosing a name that is no more than three syllables.

You want a name that is easy to remember. It doesn’t have to be an exact match.

Be careful not to register a brand name for your website. You could find yourself in a lot of legal trouble.

When you are not sure, I recommend doing a Google search to ensure you are not using someone else’s brand name.

To start, go to www.namecheap.com (*Paid Link).

Frequently Asked Questions

How Do I Find Out Who Owns A Domain Name?

You can use a WHOIS lookup tool to see who owns a domain name.

WHOIS is a public database that stores information about registered domain names, including the name and contact information of the domain owner.

To use a WHOIS lookup tool, enter the domain name in the search field, and it will return the available information about the domain and its owner.

There are several WHOIS lookup tools available online. Most domain registrars also provide this service on their websites.

Can Someone Legally Take My Domain Name?

It is generally not possible for someone to take your domain name without your permission.

Registered domains are on a first-come, first-served basis, and once you have registered a domain name, it is yours to use as long as you maintain the registration.

However, there are some circumstances where your domain name could be at risk. For example, if you fail to renew your registration, the domain name could become available for someone else to register.

When someone believes that you are using a domain name in a way that infringes on their trademark, they may be able to file a complaint and potentially have the domain name taken away from you.

It is essential to keep your registration up to date and avoid using it in a way that could infringe on someone else’s trademark.

How Long Do I Own My Domain Name?

You can use a registered domain name for a set period, usually one to ten years.

You need to renew your registration to continue using the domain name.

Some domain registrars offer the option to register a domain name for multiple years, saving you the hassle of renewing your registration.

Even if you register a domain name for multiple years, you do not technically own the domain name permanently.

You are simply renting it for the duration of your registration. As long as you renew your registration, you can continue to use the domain name.

However, if you fail to renew your registration, the domain name could become available for someone else to register.

Do I Have To Keep Paying For My Domain Name Every Year?

Yes, you must pay a yearly fee to maintain your registration for a domain name.

When you register a domain name, you can use it for a set period, usually one to ten years.

You will need to renew your registration to continue using the domain name at the end of this period.

The exact cost of renewing a domain name will depend on the domain registrar you use and the type of domain name you have registered.

Some domain registrars may offer discounts for renewing multiple years or transferring your domain name to their service.

Remember that failing to renew your registration can result in losing your domain name, so it is essential to keep track of the expiration date and renew your registration on time.

Does It Matter Who I Buy My Domain Name From?

When choosing a domain registrar, it is crucial to consider factors such as the registrar’s reputation, reliability, and customer service.

Some registrars may offer lower prices or additional features. Such as privacy protection or website-building tools.

However, in most cases, the domain registrar you choose will not impact your website or your ability to use the domain name.

A global database called the Domain Name System (DNS) registers domain names.

As long as your domain name is registered correctly on the DNS, it should function properly and be accessible to anyone on the internet, regardless of which registrar you use.

What Is A Reasonable Price For A Domain Name?

The cost of a domain name can vary depending on factors such as the domain extension, the popularity of the domain name, and the domain registrar you use.

Most top-level domain (TLD) extensions, such as .com, .org, and .net, will cost between $10 and $20 per year.

Some newer or less common TLDs, such as .io or .co, may cost more, while others, such as .info or .biz, may cost less.

Additionally, some domain registrars may offer discounts or promotions that can lower the cost of a domain name.

It is always a good idea to shop around and compare prices from multiple registrars to find the best deal.

However, it is essential to keep in mind that the cost of a domain name is a small part of the overall cost of building and maintaining a website, so it is not worth sacrificing quality or customer service for a slightly lower price.
