How to create an Amazon affiliate link

Joining the Amazon affiliate program is a great way to make money from your website. The affiliate program is free to join, promote as many products as you want. All you need is to get an Amazon affiliate link from Amazon that has your unique affiliate code.

My guide shows you step by step how to get an Amazon affiliate link for your blog. Each link has your unique affiliate code. Amazon can identify the source of the visitor. If they make a purchase using your link, you get a commission on everything they buy, not just the item you promoted on your website.

Before you can start earning from Amazon, you have to join their free affiliate program. Amazon has affiliate programs in many countries. Join the Amazon affiliate program or programs for the countries you are targeting with your website.

For example, my website has visitors from the USA, UK, and Canada. Therefore I joined the Amazon affiliate program for those three countries.

How to get an Amazon affiliate link step by step

Step one – Sign in to your Amazon affiliate account.

You get your affiliate links from the Amazon Site Stripe, which is only available to affiliate members. To gain access to the Site Stripe, sign in to your account.

Step two – Find a product to promote on Amazon.

Head over to Amazon to search for a product to promote. As an example, I am going to look for something for pets. You can search for products using the search feature, or you can view by category.

In 2020, Amazon reduced their commission rates on multiple categories. Therefore, you should review the rates for the products you wish to promote. A bonus with Amazon is they give you a commission on everything the visitor purchases, not just the product you are promoting.

Amazon is also a famous brand that does an excellent job of selling. If you can get your visitors to go to Amazon using one of your affiliate links, you have a great chance to make money with your blog.

For my example, I am going to select a product for cats.

Step three – Get an Amazon affiliate link from the Site Stripe.

When logged in to your affiliate account, the Site Stripe appears at the top of your screen.

To get an Amazon affiliate for a product, click on ‘Text’ on the Site Stripe. Amazon generates HTML code with your affiliate ID for you.

Copy this HTML text and return to your blog post.

Step four -Add your Amazon affiliate link to your WordPress blog.

You have written an excellent post recommending products from Amazon. Now it’s time to add your affiliate links.

To add your Amazon affiliate link, highlight the text in your blog post, and paste.

After you paste your code, the text colour changes and a small popup shows the link URL destination. When a visitor clicks on this affiliate link, they go to the product page on Amazon. If they make a purchase, you get a commission.

When adding affiliate links to your post, make it clear to your visitor that they are going to Amazon, not to another page on your website.

If you are searching for products to promote but don’t see the Site Stripe, then you need to sign in to your account. Open a new tab, sign in to your account and then refresh the product page.

Amazon does offer low commission rates, but their conversions are excellent. Having high commissions are better, but if they don’t convert, then they aren’t going to make you any money.
