How To Add A Title Tag To Your WordPress Website Guide

In my post, I show you how to add a title tag to your WordPress website, step by step.

Title tags are essential for your website. They give your visitors and search engines information about the content you publish on your blog.

Before publishing your first blog post, I recommend setting a title tag and tagline for your website. When search engines visit your site, they get data to inform them about your content. Without this information, search engines could delay indexing your website.

To add a title tag for your WordPress website, go to ‘General’ under the ‘Settings’ tab. Enter your title tag in the ‘Site Title’ data box.

Let us do that step by step.

Step One – Select General From The Settings Tab

On the menu on the left, hover your mouse over ‘Settings’. Select ‘General’.

Step Two – Add Your Title Tag To The Site Title Data Box

Enter the title tag for your website in the ‘Site Title’ data box.

I recommend adding more information about your site in the ‘Tagline’ data box. The tagline should be a short sentence to describe your website content.

Step Three – Save Changes

After adding your title tag and tagline, scroll to the bottom of the page, and select ‘Save Changes’.

Now you have added a title tag and tagline for your WordPress website.

When a visitor goes to your website, your title tag and tagline appear on the browser tab.

Step Four – Submit Your Website To Google And Bing For Indexing

I recommend submitting your website to Google and Bing to speed up the indexing process. It takes time for the search engines to update information about your site.

Google Search Console

To submit your site to Google, go to your Google Search Console dashboard, and enter your site URL.

Request indexing by Google

Click on ‘Request Indexing’ to instruct Google to scan your website.

Please note that changes made to your website don’t show on Google and Bing straight away. For my website, updates take a few days.

Title Tags For Your Blog Posts

When you publish your blog posts, Google and Bing use the post title as the title tag. The short description under the title tag is called the meta description. Google and Bing use a part of your blog post as the meta description.

For example, here is my blog post about reducing hosting costs.
